La Spezia, 24 of July 2018.
Giovanni Lonardi is the first new rider announced for the 2019 season by the NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini team. The young Italian talent, born in 1996 in Verona, has signed a 2 years contract for the 2019 and 2020 season. He will become a PRO with the #OrangeBlue jersey.
His most famous victory is the one of the Giro d’Italia Under23, he already have 12 successes in 2 years among the Under23, such as the Popolarissima and the Circuito del Porto. Many prestigious placements as the 2 podiums (one in 2017 and one in 2018) of the Giro d’Italia Under23. The improvements in these year are important. A talent of Italian cycling, that rode with the Zalf jersey in 2018 and yet selected by the CT Cassani to ride with the Italian Selection jersey. The NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini will count on his skills from the 2019 season.
Dreaming the Parigi-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders, inspired by Tom Boonen, the young Italian rider is a good sprinter, able to resist in mixed roads and short climbs. To reach his dream he know he have to work hard, in a team that believes in his quality giving him the right time to grow-up. This his first words as #OrangeBlue rider:
“I’m really happy to become a PRO in the NIPPO Vini Fantini team where young riders have the right time and space to grow up. I know the team, and I’ve seen many times on the roads of Verona (my city) Damiano Cunego trainings with the #OrangeBlue jersey. I also know as competitors Imerio and Damiano Cima, we have been competing many times last year in Under23 category. In this 2018 I already won 6 races, the most important of which for me is definitely the first stage in the Giro d’Italia Under23. If I have to dream big, my inspirational rider is Tom Boonen and the races I dream of winning are the Northern Monuments like the Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders. These are dreams of course that can only be crowned with hard work, so in the next two seasons I want first and foremost to serve my new team, discover the PRO competitions and grow helping my teammates, hoping also to win when and where the team will ask me to do it.”
