A good third place closes a week of excellent performance of the NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini team in Italian races. After the great victory of Lobato at the Coppa Sabatini and excellent placings also comes the podium in the home race in Abruzzo.

Pescara – 71° Trofeo Matteotti.

Podium of Marco Tizza at the Trofeo Matteotti, the third of this season for the #OrangeBlue athlete at the end of an Italian week in which he had already collected two top 10 with a good 9th at the Marco Pantani Memorial and a 5th place at the Giro della Toscana. In his first year with the NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini team Marco Tizza had already went close to the victory in the Volta Limburg and in the fourth stage of the Vuelta Burgos finishing second on both occasions.

The 71th Trofeo Matteotti is held in September, but the weather is reminiscent of the classic July date. Like every year great enthusiasm on the streets with a special cheer for the teams and athletes linked to the Abruzzo area. These includes the NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini which have two of the three main sponsors related to the host region. A special link also for Marco Tizza, with a past at the GM Europa Ovini, in his first year at NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini he gets his third podium of the season in one of the most important races for the team.

Ready and in the first 15km of the race breaks the group that is divided into two sections. About forty men in command with some attack and shuffling from the pursuer group. For the #OrangeBlue ready to take part in the action Nicola Bagioli, Ivan Santaromita and Marco Tizza. Halfway through the race by virtue of the advantage accumulated by the first group the second section is stopped by the jury (being a circuit). There remain 35 athletes to play for the victory. Nicola Bagioli attacks two laps from the end together but is taken by the group at about 15km from the finish line. It is flown, regulated by Davide Ballerini (Androni) in front of Visconti (Italy) and Marco Tizza (NIPPO Vini Fantini Europa Ovini).

Happy with the podium Marco Tizza who comments his performance with these words: “Being able to hit the podium here at the Trofeo Matteotti is really special for me. I have a special sentiment to Abruzzo also thanks to my previous GM Europa Ovini team, last year I had not managed to reach the podium and I am happy to have done it now with the #OrangeBlue shirt because it is an important result for my team. We close a week that has given us great satisfaction at the team level. I am in an excellent moment of form I want to continue like this in view of the upcoming events. “
